Bowfinger

1 Bobby Bowfinger is a shameless wannabe film producer, who is desperate to break into the Hollywood big-time in spite of the fact that he's broke and unconnected. His plans are thwarted when he is unable to land Hollywood's hottest action star, Kit Ramsey for the lead roll in his movie. Undaunted, Bowfinger decides to make the film with Ramsey anyway, except that Kit won't know he's in it. Determined, Bowfinger and his motley crew surreptitiously stalk their unwitting star through the streets of Los Angeles. They film Kit's every move and trap him in scenes he doesn't know he is in, turning Kit's life into a paranoid nightmare, as Bowfinger's crazy schemes become more and more outrageous.

  InTooDeep

3+ Based on a true story, overzealous police rookie Omar Epps goes undercover to take down urban drug czar LL Cool J in this cop thriller. The line between friend and foe gradually disintegrates as the impressionable young cop becomes too invested in his new identity. Stanley Tucci, Nia Long and Pam Grier co-star.

A.com:  InTooDeep's screenplay is well written, the actors (male and female) are believable, and cinematography is excellent.  Omar Epps and LL Cool J give great performances.  Omar Epps performance in InTooDeep rivals his performance in the classic film Juice.  LL Cool J in his first significant dramatic film role is powerful.  Guest appearances by music artists Mya and JD.  InTooDeep is reminiscent of Bill Duke's masterpiece Deep Cover which starred Lawrence Fishborne.

The Matrix

Official Web Site

3+

Keanu Reeves plays Neo, a computer hacker who discovers that the world around him is a computer simulation called the Matrix. He learns this from Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who also tells him that the Matrix uses humans as fuel for his quest of total domination. Morpheus has been searching his entire life for a "chosen one" to destroy the Matrix, and he believes Neo is it. Neo has his doubts, but through all his adventures with Morpheus and his crew, he starts to believe, and is ready to destroy the Matrix.

A.com:  The Wachowski Brothers (Andy & Larry) really out do themselves as directors of The Matrix.  They successfully combined all of the elements of filmmaking to create a film that is both revolutionary (use of computer animation and photography) and will be seen as a classic in the years to come.

The Wachowski Brothers have masterfully blended the elements of cinematography, computer animation, screenplay, special effects, casting, and storytelling.  I highly recommend that you BUY this film, as it will save you money in the long run, as a result of multiple rentals.  I have watched this film five times to date.  I have to point out the unbelievably choreographed actions scenes, which are obviously influenced by the master director of Hong Kong action films, John Woo.  I look forward to Woo's response, to the challenge set forth by The Wachowski Brothers, in Woo's upcoming film Mission Impossible 2.
